Recent data shows the IT employment sector has continued to strengthen from the past quarter, with an increase in both contracting and permanent vacancies, indicating a strong improving market.

The latest Peoplebank ICT Salary & Employment Index shows contract roles rose by +7% and permanent vacancies were up by +39%  between the second quarter (April to June 2014) and the third quarter (July to September). Read more

Liability of Payroll Tax

The latest Pulse Survey of Hiring Intentions from the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) shows 61 per cent of responding RCSA members predict an increase in the demand for permanent recruitment services over the next three months. The Australian economy added 14,000 jobs in April, smashing the market expectation of 9,000.

It is an amazing figure, especially given April was an unusual month for Australian business, with the ANZAC Day holiday falling the week after Easter, leading to a three-day work week which many people took off entirely. This had the potential to affect job creation decisions.

As we proceed into a New Year, some of us may feel the pinch on profit margins. Last year the market saw a steady and stable development, however some recruitment agencies still faced cash flow challenges which hindered their growth opportunities. The year ahead may bring some level of uncertainty; however it is imperative not to dwell on the negatives but to look at new and improved ways of doing things. With some industry professionals forecasting that Australia will continue a steady economic growth for 2013, there is some hope that opportunities will arise and that there will be generation of jobs.
