It is an amazing figure, especially given April was an unusual month for Australian business, with the ANZAC Day holiday falling the week after Easter, leading to a three-day work week which many people took off entirely. This had the potential to affect job creation decisions.

Australia’s unemployment rate decreased in March
Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 5.8 per cent in March, as announced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 64.7 per cent in March.
The ABS reported the number of people employed increased by 18,100 to 11,553,200 in March. The increase in employment was due to increased female and male part-time employment, up 40,200 people to 3,524,000, offset by decreased full-time employment, down 22,100 to 8,029,100. Read more

9,000 part-time jobs created
The workforce participation rate in Australia has been falling for close to a decade now; this could be because jobseekers are getting discouraged and just ‘giving up’, joining the ranks of what are commonly called the hidden unemployment, or it could be down to people choosing to do other things that work.
