The roles that Australian companies find hardest to fill (Source: Financial Review)

A talent shortage has led to 42 per cent of Australian employers struggling to fill roles despite national unemployment at 6.1 per cent, a survey has found.

Human resource and recruitment company Manpower Group Australia surveyed more than 1500 businesses and found one quarter of Australian companies were not currently implementing any tactics to curb the impact of the talent shortage.

In the annual survey, skilled trades were remained the hardest roles to fill.

This year management and executive positions came in at second hardest role to fill, up from ranked fifth in 2014.

Good news for IT Contractors as Australian IT hiring turns to Contractors

With IT seeping into all areas of the business, and working on a project basis, the hiring of IT contractors has become a more popular trend in Australia, the latest edition of Hudson’s Employment Trends report says.

Surveying 2,887 Australian employers about their hiring intentions, the report found that 29.4% of respondents intended to hire contract IT staff, with the intention to hire permanent IT staff falling 3.6% from the last report to 25.2%.  Indicating that IT contractors have more chance of getting a job than someone seeking a permanent tech role.

Higher hiring incentive for NSW Employers

NSW government announced higher hiring incentive 

 

 

The NSW government has boosted a payroll tax rebate for businesses that employ workers laid off in mass redundancies.

The initiative was announced on Tuesday by Premier Barry O’Farrell  and Treasurer Mike Baird; explaining that the rebate will rise from $5,000 to $6,000 which would give businesses an extra incentive to hire laid-off workers.

The initiative comes as the latest job figures showed NSW’s relative strength in testing economic times but recent large-scale industry readjustments has left a number of workers without jobs.

Mr. O’Farrell stated that “any job loss is concerning, but it is particularly worrying when retrenchments cause significant disruption to a region, or when those jobs are in a specialised field where there are limited opportunities for re-employment”.
